Firewood cutting permits on sale | Environment
The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) new office in Farmington is now selling firewood cutting permits. The BLM firewood permits are no longer available at the U.S. Forest Service Office in Bloomfield.
Firewood permits are $12 per cord for firewood cut for personal use and $15 per cord for cutting firewood for resale. Permits currently sold are valid until Dec. 31, 2012. They are also valid for cutting only dead and down or dead and standing pinon or juniper trees.
Over $300 can be fined for cutting wood from BLM lands without a firewood permit. A $300 fine will be charged for cutting green trees with a $50 fine for each additional tree. Any equipment used to illegally cut firewood can be confiscated at the discretion of a BLM Law Enforcement Officer.
