Santa Fe police arrest man for murder of brother | News
Santa Fe police have arrested Felix Martinez for murder and tampering with evidence in the homicide of his brother, David Martinez.
Martinez was found in a vacant lot near Torreon Park on March 12. Police believe Felix fired a deadly shot into David's chest.
According to authorities, a second man may also be charged in the murder.
Sam Leyba was named a person of interest last week. Police say Leyba helped Felix move David's body in attempt to cover up the murder.
Officials say Leyba's home along Ephriam Street is where the three were hanging out when Felix and David began fighting. Police say David had a gun with him. Felix thought David was going to shoot him, so he grabbed the gun first and fired a single shot at David in self-defense.
According to the criminal complaint, investigators found a bullet hole through a glass window of Leyba's home.
Neighbors told police they saw Leyba and Felix walking with a large package on a dolly, which police say the duo used to move David's body.
The blood-stained dolly was found yards away from the scene.
Authorities say the murder weapon was a .38-caliber revolver and was found on David's chest.
Police are looking into whether this case could be connected to another homicide in late February.
