Man arrested in Chimayo shooting death | News
New Mexico State Police say a Chimayo man was killed Tuesday night in a shooting on NM 76.
Police say they were called to the scene and found two men on the road near a home.
After securing the scene, officers identified the two men as Hector Martinez, 29, and his father Zacharias Martinez, 56, both of Chimayo.
Both men had been shot with a small caliber weapon.
Hector Martinez succumbed to the gunshot wound at the scene, while his father, Zacharias Martinez, was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper leg area.
The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was called to take over the investigation and process the scene.
As a result, Roy Martinez, 54, of Chimayo was arrested and charged with voluntary manslaughter, aggravated battery with a weapon enhancement and tampering with evidence.
Police say Roy Martinez told investigators that the two men were assaulting his nephew when he shot them.
An investigation is continuing.
